Kid Loco - A Grand Love Story

A Grand Love Story is a headie mix of trance/trip-hop/easy listening by the french musician and DJ Jean Yves Prieur aka Kid Loco. He played in a bunch of french punk bands in the 80's, then moved on to reggae and hip hop. A grand love story is his best known album, released in 1997, the music is laid-back, airy, warm, and nice to listen to any time of the day hence 'easy listening.' i recomend listening to the whole album at once because its one of those albums imo. some parts of the album are really trippy, take it for what it is.

"It Was Written"-Nas

"It Was Written" is Nas' second album. Although all around a solid album, you can not help but think of Illmatic when listening to this album because his voice still sounds very much the same and the album cover is not much different. It has its moments (If I Ruled The World, Street Dreams) but some tracks are odd. Dr. Dre even appears on the album which is an odd mix of styles and Nas' takes 2Pac's beat from All Eyez On Me on another track. I do not like this as much as most of his other albums but it is still solid.

This album came out in October 1985. I think it was ahead of it's time.

From Wikipedia: "The band drew most of their limited popularity from teenagers and people in their early twenties, as a huge bulk of their songs pertained to teenaged angst and desired independence, especially in their earlier days. Songs such as "Kids Don't Follow" and "Bastards of Young" showed the band's desire to almost remain as free-spirited children. The band showed up drunk to many of their live performances in which they just did drunken covers of songs."

About "Tim": Tim's mainstream commercial success, like its predecessors, was moderate at best, despite the critical acclaim it garnered. Stylistically, the album shows Paul Westerberg's diverse influences, including Alex Chilton's Big Star on "Hold My Life", Roy Orbison and Duane Eddy on "Swingin' Party" and Chuck Berry and Nick Lowe on "Kiss Me on the Bus". Lyrically, the album is typical of Westerberg's style. The songs are an assortment of alienated narratives from a motley crew of low lifes and losers, often tragically unable to function as a responsible adult."

This upload is kind of offbeat but worth a listen if you like jazz. Gil Scott-Heron was a militant black activist/ poet/ musician in the 70's. He is considered one of the founding fathers of hip hop. His music incorporates poetry, jazz, soul, r&b, and everything else in between. 'Free Will' is his third album released in 1972 and i give it 4.977827 Bananas out of 5 Bananas

The best remix of Jay-Z's Black Album hands down. The concept seems very odd. Samples from The Beatles with Jay-Z's vocals from "The Black Album" over it. Although it seems like it would be very sloppy, DJ Danger Mouse makes it seem like it was made to be. The beats are incredible. The only downside to the album is that it obviously has to be compared to "The Black Album" which has incredible beats as well. Both albums were made well. The best track imo is "99 Problems" with samples from "Helter Skelter" in it with "Encore" a close second.

He will forever be linked to his verse on Nas' "Life's A Bitch". Brooklyn's AZ is a very skilled lyricist but he still has never released an album that has lived up to his hype. This is a very solid album. On first listen it seems as though he has made much progress as a solo artist but he still has much potential. It also includes a bonus track "Royal Salute" which is a diss to 50 Cent who included a line aimed at AZ on his song "What If". I've only listened to this album once and it was not bad. It has its moments and its flaws.

Banner Pilot - "Pass The Poison"

The Minneapolis, Minnesota punk scene is known for it's rough and to the point take on punk rock. Like every single band I'll probably post on here, you'll be able to pick out personal lyrics about heartache, drinking, and hope. These guys have their own spin on Jawbreaker influenced punk, smoked by the Lawrence Arms and seasoned with some Replacements. On this 8-song album, Banner Pilot delivers. Honestly, I can't believe these guys JUST got picked up by a record label a year after this album. Put this on during a long drive and you'll be good. Just don't be an idiot like me and fuck up your driver-side mirror.

I know basically everyone on this site has this album but I'm gonna put it up just in case some sneaky bastard doesn't have it yet. Arguably the best hip-hop album of all time(my number 2), there is not a weak track on the album. Nas' is at the top of his game and manages to be both raw and polished on this album. One of the top lyricsts of all time, there are so many classic lines on this album as well. The album's biggest strength is also its biggest weakness, which is its length. Having 10 tracks( one which is just an intro and not a song), it has no fillers but is not as lengthy as some other classic hip hop albums. It gets the coveted

"The Blueprint": Jay-Z

Say what you want about Jay-Z, but he has always had the skills to be considered one of the greatest of all time. Reasonable Doubt imo is his best album but this is a close second. He came out with this album in the prime of his career. Released oddly enough on September 11th, 2001. Although this will forever be compared to "Stillmatic" by Nas because of their beef at the time this album was released and "Reasonable Doubt" which is considered to be his best album by many, it still has its own unique feel. Many of the beats are handled by Kanye West( then basically unknown). "Takeover" is a solid diss track but isn't nearly as lyrical as Nas' "Ether". Sensitve thugs y'all need hugs. 4.5/5 Bananas

The Broadways - "Broken Star"

This album is a fucking must-have for any Chicago punk enthusiast. Coming from a band that everyone thought would be the new biggest thing, Brendan Kelly, Chris McCaughan, Dan Hanaway, and Rob DePaola came together and presented nothing any Slapstick fan could imagine. Intense, beautiful, introspective, and socially aware, this album is the epitome of modern punk rock. It's harsh and melodic. Quiet and loud. There are songs that range from friendship to capitalism, from drinking to the persecution to the American Indian and back. I really just love this album. There's nothing much to it besides that.

"Ready To Die"-Notorious B.I.G.

I had to start off with this album because,personally, it is and forever will be my favorite hip-hop album of all time. It only got better the more I listened to it. The whole album is much more gritty and raw than Life After Death and has many songs that sound very underground( Gimme The Loot, Suicidal Thoughts, Unbelievable, The What). Biggie is one of the best lyricists in the history of hip hop and this album showcases his skills better than his other material especially since there is only one guest rapper on a 17 track album(Method Man on "The What"). The subject matter doesn't change a whole lot but there is no doubt this is a as close to a perfect album as possible. It gets the coveted
